As a multi-discipline Artist and Surface Designer, Karen happily works with a wide variety of mediums including watercolour and acrylic paints, textiles, fibers, wood and modeling compounds. She has formal training in Visual Art, studied Printmaking in Florence, Italy, Theatre Arts at the Banff School of Fine Art, Film Studies in Vancouver and Decorative Paint Finishes at the former Ritins School of Decorative Art and Design in Toronto. Karen worked for many years in Set Decoration during Vancouver's booming film industry and designed for many of that city's top festivals including the International Comedy and Fringe Festivals. She is also an experienced Colour Consultant, Design Guide and Faux Finishes Specialist. She has worked with many of the top art supply brands in the world.
Karen has over 500 art and craft projects published in US based periodicals and books and has been featured in several magazines and newspapers including Woman's Day, Better Homes and Gardens, Crafts, Focus, Western Living, Chatelaine, The Times Colonist, The Province and News Review papers. She has an engaging and encouraging teaching style and has instructed art and design courses to over 3,000 children, adults and special needs persons throughout B.C. including the Penticton Summer School of the Arts. She also taught over 80 people (at one time) in an interactive painting class in a hotel ball room during a trade show for Opus Artists Supply.
Karen has created one-of-a-kind designs that are in collections throughout North America, Europe, Australia and Japan. Her designs have been sold in top home décor stores, boutiques and specialty shops in Vancouver and on Vancouver Island.
Residing in the Pacific Northwest, Karen is currently painting and creating fine and functional art on multiple surfaces. She also transfers her watercolour and acrylic paintings and hand painted designs onto fabrics, home décor, fashions, accessories, journal covers and cards. She welcomes licencing and collaboration inquiries. Karen will custom design for your specific project whatever the size or surface.
Karen's artwork and skills have supported charities and organizations such as WildArc, The Foodbank, JDRF,The Victoria Foundation, The Redcross for Ukraine, Threshold Society, WIN, BBBS Go Girls, SD63, Victoria Special Olympics, Arts Reach and Balfour's Friends Foundation.
